Sciatica

Pain that travels from the low back down the leg, often from a pinched nerve. Learn about image-guided treatment.

What Is Sciatica?

Sciatica is pain that travels along the sciatic nerve, from the low back through the buttock and down the leg. It is usually caused by a herniated disc, spinal stenosis or another problem pressing on a nerve root in the low back.

Common Symptoms

  • Pain that shoots down one leg, sometimes below the knee
  • Numbness or tingling in the leg or foot
  • Leg weakness
  • Pain that worsens with sitting or coughing

How Dr. Rema Can Help

Dr. Rema may recommend an image-guided epidural steroid injection or selective nerve root block to calm the irritated nerve, along with physical therapy. If the pain is coming from the sacroiliac joint, an SI joint injection may help.
