Spinal Arthritis

Arthritis in the small joints of the spine can cause ongoing neck and back pain and stiffness. See treatment options.

What Is Spinal Arthritis?

Spinal arthritis, often called facet joint arthritis, is wear and inflammation of the small joints at the back of the spine. These joints help the spine bend and twist, and when arthritic they can be a common source of neck and back pain.

Common Symptoms

  • Neck or low back pain that stays mostly in the spine
  • Stiffness, especially after rest
  • Pain with twisting or leaning backward
  • Pain that spreads to the shoulders or buttocks

How Dr. Rema Can Help

Dr. Rema may use diagnostic facet injections or medial branch blocks to confirm the source of pain. If these help, radiofrequency ablation may provide longer-lasting relief.
